Cairns, Australia
  • Take a bird's eye view above the rainforest canopy on an elevated walkway above the Wooroonooran National Park
  • Participate in a community service project by making scones and giving them to the elderly citizens on Malanda.  Many of these citizens were early pioneers in the development and settlement of this area.  Learn a great deal about Australian historyan culture as you visit with them while passing out the results of your culinary talent!
  • View the exquisite waterfalls located within the Atherton Tablelands.
  • Dine at a Cairns restaurant.
  • Shop at the local Cairns Night Markets, a lively emporium for all things unique and Australian.

     My journal:

Yet another early morning, a habit we were starting to get used to, awaited us, and yet again we ate our breakfasts and boarded the coach.

We first participated in a guided walking tour of the rain forest. The view of tall lush trees, rolling hills, and flowing creek looked like as if painted on beautiful fresco. Even though a recent cyclone had destroyed the forest the plants lived on and their will to survive is slowly restoring the wildlife of the rainforest.

Afterwards we all tested our cooking ability while making scones for Australia’s elderly. We were covered in flour and sticky dough, but it was worth it to see the smiles on the senior’s faces.

We sung to them and talked to them. Some talked asked us about America, others asked about People to People, and others just talked. After this it was a long bus ride to the hotel. Afterwards we had some more free time followed up with a delicious dinner.
